Tutorial 1 : Basic Melt and Pour Soap

Basic Melt and Pour Soap

To make basic melt and pour soap, you will need the following ingredients :
  • Transparent Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • Soap Color
  • Fragrance
  • Soap Mold
  • Microwave (or double boiler)
  • Rubbing Alcohol Spray
  • Knife
  • Stirrer
  • Tumbler with lid
You can buy all the ingredients from here.
Before we start making basic melt and pour soap, make sure your workplace is clean and organized.

Steps
  1. Cut the Soap Base into small pieces to allow for easier melting.
  2. Place the soap base into a microwave safe container. Cover the top of the container with a lid or a plastic wrap.
  3. Heat it in the microwave for around 1 minute. You can increase/decrease the time depending on the quantity of soap base being melted. Make sure you do not heat it to a boiling temperature.

    4. . Remove the base from the microwave and gently stir it with a stirrer. Make sure no chunks of soap base are present in the tumbler. Don’t stir too hard as it can create excess air bubbles.

    5. Add color to the base. The quantity of the color to be added depends on your preference. However, to maintain transparency, do not make the base dark colored.

    6. Add fragrance to the base. The quantity of fragrance to be added should be equal to 2% of the quantity of the base being used. Do not add fragrance when the base is too hot to avoid evaporation of the fragrance.

    7. Stir the soap base so as to mix the perfume and color.
    8. Pour the soap base slowly into the mold.

    9. Spray the top of the mold with rubbing alcohol to remove any air bubbles present.

    10. Allow it to dry for about 30 to 40 minutes.
    11. . When the soap is fully hardened, simply press the mold over and pop it out.

Your basic melt and pour soap is ready to use :)

  3. If you are not using rubbing alcohol, then you can scrape off the top layer of the ready soap using a scraper. This will give it a neat look.
